Ilai Alon is Professor of Islamic Studies at Tel Aviv University’s Department of Philosophy, with extensive knowledge of culture, conflict and negotiations in Arab-speaking Islam. He holds a Ph.D. in Arabic Philosophy from Oxford and the Hebrew University. He’s published influential academic works, and notably served as a member of the Israeli delegation for negotiations with Syria and the Palestinian Authority between 1999 and 2001.
He’s worked at Harvard and Princeton in the US, and has conducted workshops for security agencies and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, covering topics such as identity, conflict and recognition, politics and traditional conflict resolution institutions in Islam. This in-depth profiling has provided a much greater understanding of the behaviors of individuals in relevant groups.
